About the Role:
Axiel Food @ McEwan Fine Foods is seeking a reliable and skilled Assistant Seafood Manager to help lead the daily operations of our seafood department. This role is perfect for someone who not only has strong kitchen experience and a passion for quality seafood, but who also brings creativity, initiative, and drive to the table—even on slower days.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Seafood Manager in all areas of day-to-day operations
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and product quality
- Receive, rotate, and merchandise fresh seafood
- Assist with fish cutting, portioning, and kitchen prep as needed
- Keep momentum going on slower days by being proactive, productive, and creative
- Contribute new ideas for displays, ready-to-eat items, or customer engagement
- Lead by example in work ethic, professionalism, and teamwork
- Support training and coaching of junior staff
Must-Haves (Non-Negotiables):
- Strong kitchen skills and comfort with food prep
- Valid Food Handler Certification
- Dependable, punctual, and proactive attitude
- High organizational skills: consistently maintains a tidy, efficient, and well-stocked work area; ensures all tools and products are well kept.
- Able to maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold storage conditions
Nice-to-Haves:
- Fish-cutting or seafood handling experience
- Experience in food retail or high-end grocery
- Interest in seafood sustainability and seasonality
