As the Assistant Produce Team Lead at Sunterra Market, you play a vital role in bringing our vision of freshness, quality, and exceptional service to life. Duties and Responsibilities
Product Preparation & Merchandising
- Assist in preparing fresh, ready-to-serve produce items, including juices and cut fruit.
- Operate and maintain juicing and prep equipment with attention to safety and sanitation.
- Support the maintenance of clean, well-stocked, and properly rotated displays.
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product labeling.
- Follow and help enforce food safety, cleaning, and maintenance procedures.
- Promote seasonal and featured items through sampling and merchandising support.
- Stay informed about new products and assist with their presentation and placement.
Leadership & Team Development
- Support the Produce Team Lead in supervising and coordinating daily team activities.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship in produce handling and merchandising.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional service and professionalism.
Operational Oversight
- Assist in managing daily operations including receiving, stocking, and rotation.
- Help monitor inventory levels and support ordering based on trends and promotions.
- Track shrink and waste and contribute to strategies for efficiency and loss reduction.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and workplace safety standards.
Customer Experience
- Deliver legendary customer service by engaging with guests and offering expert product knowledge.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolve concerns with care and professionalism.
- Support a welcoming, informative, and fresh shopping environment.
Daily Tasks
- Set up and maintain clean, well-stocked, and visually appealing produce displays.
- Clean, peel, slice, and trim fruits and vegetables for ready-to-serve offerings.
- Prepare fresh products such as Sunterra’s freshly squeezed juices.
- Operate juicing equipment safely and efficiently; perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
- Receive, unpack, and stock produce shipments.
- Follow all established food safety, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
- Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage across all produce items.
- Ensure proper product rotation and remove damaged or expired items.
- Oversee product sampling and promote seasonal or featured items.
- Stay informed about new products and assist with their placement and presentation.
- Follow through on all customer questions and requests with professionalism and care.
Qualifications
- Experience in retail or grocery, preferably in produce or fresh food operations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support and motivate a team.
- Knowledge of produce varieties, seasonality, and handling best practices.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Customer-focused mindset with strong communication abilities.
- Familiarity with inventory control and merchandising is an asset.
- WHMIS and Food Safety Certification required (training provided by Sunterra).
Working Conditions
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Exposure to temperature variations and wet conditions in refrigerated and prep areas.
- Repetitive lifting of items up to 40 lbs (team lift required for heavier items).
- Use of knives, peelers, juicers, and other produce preparation tools.
- May require reaching, bending, and climbing ladders or stools.
