The Faculty of Education, Western University, invites applications for two probationary Teaching Scholar (TS) appointments in the area of Educational Leadership: one with a focus in higher education and the other with a focus in K-12 education. We are especially interested in applications from scholars who have scholarship and teaching expertise in the areas of Indigenous education leadership.
These probationary appointments will be made at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, according to qualifications and experience. An appointment made at the rank of Assistant Professor will lead to consideration of continuing status and promotion to Associate Professor, TS at the end of the probationary period (maximum of 6 years). Appointment made at the rank of Associate will lead to consideration of continuing status and promotion to Full Professor, TS at the end of the probationary period (maximum of 3 years). The effective date of the appointments may be as early as September 1, 2025. The workload for the Teaching Scholar is 60% teaching, 20% scholarship activity, and 20% service.
A candidate with the potential to serve in a leadership role in the Education Doctorate program (Program Director, Education Doctorate) will be given preference for one of the appointments. The salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
At the time of applications, candidates must:
- have an earned doctorate (research-based) in educational administration, higher education leadership, educational leadership, school leadership, or related fields. Candidates who are near completion of the doctorate may apply and should indicate the defense date;
- have a demonstrated record of successful leadership experience in an educational setting;
- have excellent oral and written communication skills;
- have a proven record of excellence in teaching in higher education, including in-person and online instruction;
- have a proven record of excellence in scholarship and/or research as appropriate for career stage, which includes publications and dissemination of scholarly work and/or research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful leadership experience working with students, faculty, and staff in the higher education setting and/or district offices and/or provincial and national education leadership associations;
- Knowledge about and training for conducting research and/or scholarship;
- Demonstrated experience supervising graduate level research;
- A commitment to fostering a collegial culture and environment in our Faculty.
Responsibilities:
As a Teaching Scholar, the successful candidates must:
- teach courses in the Education Doctorate in Educational Leadership;
- be regularly involved in meetings with graduate students;
- advise students, participate in program governance and other university and faculty-related services;
- participate in professional associations at the local, provincial, and national levels;
- engage in scholarship and commitment to seeking external funding;
- ability to teach in the Teacher Education program is preferred;
- and participate in-person for service commitments at the Faculty and broader Western University community.
