About the job

In this position, you will:

  • assist with preparing fish species calcified structures for the laboratory from fish sampled in the field
  • record and\or enter ageing assessment results into a database
  • assist in the preparation of data summaries on age and growth
  • assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment

What you bring to the team

Mandatory requirements

  • You must possess or have the ability to obtain a standard first aid certificate with CPR.

Technical knowledge:

You have demonstrated knowledge of:
  • biology, fish and wildlife management or environmental studies
  • fish species anatomy and identification
  • information gathering practices (e.g. field sample and data collection, aging techniques and protocols, data preparation and entry)
  • laboratory equipment usage

General skills:

  • computer skills and proficiency with word processing, database, spreadsheet and digital imaging software
  • organizational skills to carry out the preparation of large numbers of calcified structures
  • demonstrated ability to work independently, carry out routine instructions as well as work in a team environment
  • communication skills to respond to inquiries and share information
