Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director Administration, the Area Manager is responsible for planning, developing and implementing business processes to support the Administrative Service Centre (ASC) Arts-Ferrier which includes the departments/units of Art History & Communications Studies, English, DLTC (Département des littératures de langue française, de traduction et de création), and the French Language Centre, within the Faculty of Arts. Manages the financial administrative operations of the ASC. Implements standards for unit service levels and provides managerial support regarding the ASC's goals and objectives. Implements new initiatives that support the strategic direction of the ASC. Directly supervises employees.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyse the financial operations of the area.
- Manage accounting and payroll activities. Exercise budgetary controls.
- Authorize and approve expenditures and ensure compliance with the University and departmental budget policies and financial procedures.
- Manage appropriate reporting and year-end financial documentation.
- Develop and implement procedures, controls and record keeping systems for the unit.
- Analyze and develop methods for budgetary planning and recommend budget allocations for departments, including working with the chairs to develop plans for the budgetary meetings with the Dean.
- Manage operating and research budgets for departments.
- Directly supervise a team of administrative support staff, manage workflow, set goals and objectives, verify and assign work.
- Provide cross-functional support to unit’s other hiring managers and act as back up with respect to academic hires (ranked and unranked), teaching assistants (AGSEM), and course lecturers (MCLIU).
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Strong financial and analytical skills with experience in budgeting, payroll, and accounting. Proven ability to apply financial policies, manage reporting and year-end processes, and support strategic budget planning. Demonstrated leadership in supervising administrative staff and overseeing workflow. Ability to provide cross-functional support for various staffing processes, including academic and unionized hires. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Experience working in a university setting an asset. Bilingual English and French.
Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (Fluent) on a scale of 0-4.
