Job Description:

Kenpesq't is seeking a motivated Field Director or Permit-Holding Archaeologist to join our archaeology department. In this role, you will be responsible for scheduling and estimating projects, directing and conducting fieldwork, and delivering high-quality reports on time. You will oversee field crews, manage permitting requirements, and ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards while maintaining close collaboration with clients.

The successful candidate will bring strong project management skills to efficiently coordinate projects from planning and logistics through to field execution and reporting. They will also represent the Kenpesq't brand professionally by interacting with clients, building trusted relationships with industry partners, and supporting the continued growth of our archaeology operations.

Responsibilities:

· Pull and manage permits for Kenpesq’t Territorial Operations.

· Schedule, estimate, and oversee archaeological assessments, surveys, excavations, and monitoring projects.

· Lead and supervise field crews, ensuring accurate data collection and quality control in both office and field settings.

· Maintain client relationships and represent the Kenpesq’t brand professionally through regular communication and collaboration.

· Identify, record, and evaluate archaeological sites while ensuring compliance with legislation, permitting requirements, and professional standards.

· Prepare clear, timely technical reports and provide professional recommendations to clients and partners.

· Manage projects across infrastructure, land use planning, resource management, and forestry, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.

· Stay current with regulatory changes, permitting processes, and industry best practices.

· Train and mentor junior archaeologists and field technicians, supporting skill development and team growth.

· Engage with Indigenous communities, government agencies, industry representatives, and stakeholders to build and maintain strong partnerships.

· Assist in budget and long-range planning processes.

Experience:

· Minimum of 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.

· Field Director status or/and Permit Holder in the Interior Plateau or Rocky Mountain regions of British Columbia (or ability to obtain) preferred.

· Professional Membership in the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAAPA) or eligibility to obtain membership.

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.

· Lab experience with artifact analysis and photography specific to lithics.

· Strong familiarity with the Provincial Heritage Conservation Act, along with municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations.

· Experience with GIS mapping, data collection, and planning.

· Experience working with Indigenous communities, provincial regulatory bodies, municipal staff, and other levels of government.

· Experience managing projects related to infrastructure, land use planning, forestry, and resource management.

Skills & Abilities:

· Ability to work in remote locations and varying field conditions.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage a diverse group of stakeholders.

· Comfortable leading field crews and assessments.

· Excellent report writing and documentation skills.

· Business and financial acumen.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

· Entrepreneurial mindset with the desire to grow professionally.

· Understanding of how to use AI and technology to support and assist in daily tasks.

Conditions of Employment:

· Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License and be willing to provide a driver's abstract.

· Must have or be willing to take Intermediate OFA and Transportation Endorsement.

· Willingness and ability to work in diverse terrain, weather conditions, and remote locations.

· Willingness to travel, work extended shifts, and occasional multi-day trips.
