Title: Program Assistant (STAGE)

Classification Community Support Worker, Grid Level 10, JJEP Wage Grid.

Department: Community Based Services

Reports to: Program Manager

Purpose of Position: To empower and support people with disabilities as valued and participating citizens in inclusive communities.

Job Summary: Supporting adults in a welcoming, inclusive environment focused on educational and life skills development. Involves assisting with daily activities, implementing individualized support plans, and facilitating skill-building exercises in areas like communication and independent living. Works closely with the senior program assistant and manager to ensure a positive, supportive experience that encourages participants' growth and independence. This role requires strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

· High School certificate (minimum) or equivalent

· Special Education Assistant Certificate or equivalent

· one year (minimum) experience providing support to people with disabilities in educational or vocational setting

OR

· a relevant combination of education and/or experience, combined with general suitability

Skills and Knowledge

· experience in course development and planning

· experience and/or knowledge of issues affecting people with disabilities

· demonstrated ability to assist participants in achieving goals and objectives

1.0_ DIRECT SERVICE AND SUPPORT_

Responsibility

1.1 Be familiar with and creatively implement learning outcomes. Support learning outcomes:

Uses clear expectations, visuals, and hands on learning to help participants to understand program materials.

Facilitates skill development: Guide participants in building essential life skills such as communication, social interaction, and task management.

Encourage self-discovery: Assist participants in recognizing their strengths and interests, supporting personal growth and self-confidence.

Engage through practice: Use role-playing, interactive activities, and real-life scenarios to reinforce learning and skill application.

Create Accessible Learning Materials: develop simple, customized materials and instructions to match individual learning needs.

1.2 Attend and participate in all meetings and scheduled appointments.

1.3 Maintain regular communication with Program Manager.

1.4 Assist in training noyees, volunteers, practicum students and others as requested by Program Manager. Provide orientation including Job shadowing as required.

1.5 Provide feedback to participants regarding which courses are best suited to their needs.

1.6 Understand and support participant’s needs and learning style. Reviews and assesses each participant's learning style and adapts teaching style as needed matching each participants preferred style using visual aids, hands on activities or verbal explanations as needed.

1.7 Assist participants to maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in all areas of the program site and grounds.

1.8 Ensure any equipment breakage or loss is reported.

1.9 As needed, ensure appropriate wheelchair securement on public transit.

2.0_ ADMINISTRATION_

Responsibility

2.1 Emergency information of the participants to be carried when working off site.

2.2 Complete and submit learning outcomes and end of term reports.

2.3 Complete daily attendance of participants on ShareVision

2.4 Ensure all course related material is saved on ShareVision.

2.5 Accurately complete your time sheets according to payroll schedule.

2.6 Maintain petty cash float.

2.7 Complete progress notes for all participants.

2.8 Undertake special or time limited projects as directed by the Program Manager.

Craft fairs, fundraiser events.

3.0_ QUALITY ASSURANCE_

Responsibility

3.1 Maintain professional boundaries.

3.2 Follow appropriate opening and closing program site procedures.

3.3 Ensure a high level of cleanliness and organization is maintained by participants.

3.4 Maintain a professional, courteous and respectful manner with all team members including participants, community members and support networks.

3.5 Adhere to Association Mission Statement and Program Policies and Procedures.

3.6 Participate in quality assurance development and monitoring. By actively observing and recording participants progress, identifying areas for improvement and providing feedback to program team.

4.0_ COMMUNITY BUILDING & LIAISON_

Responsibility

4.1 Participate on committees, networks and working groups as directed by Program Manager.

4.2 Build and maintain communication and positive relationships with community members.

4.3 Promote STAGE small business ventures within the community. All STAGE’s of Creativity staff support participants to attend pop up shops and Markets to sell the products that they make.

4.4 Assist participants to access community services and resources that relate to their learning outcomes.

4.5 Assist participants in maintaining and expanding their personal relationships.

4.6 Support participants to self-advocate in the community.

4.7 Attend fundraising events as requested.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.95-$29.76 per hour
