Position: Addiction Worker

Status: Permanent Full Time

Program: Addiction Services

Initially assigned to: Oak Street location

Purpose:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Addictions Worker will provide hands-on assistance to clients within the Residential Addiction Program. Addictions Workers are responsible for delivering care focused on residents’ activities of daily living, while also helping residents develop coping skills and strategies for positive lifestyle changes.

Education and training:

· Proof of successful completion of a post-secondary education in a related field such as Mental Health and Addictions or Social Services Worker (SSW)

Requirements:

· A negative Police Vulnerable Sector Check

· Correctional Services Canada (CSC) Clearance or willingness to obtain

· A valid class G driver’s license and proof of insurance

· Daily access to a reliable vehicle

· Current First Aid and CPR certificate required

· Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or willingness to obtain

· Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or willingness to obtain

· Current Safe Food Handling course or willingness to obtain

· Able to lift at a minimum 20 lbs. from squatting to standing position

· Bilingualism (English/French) is required

Experience:

· Experience in Addiction & Mental Health Services is preferred

· Minimum 6 months to 1 year of experience working with vulnerable populations, specifically adults living with a serious and persistent mental illness and/or acquired brain injury (ABI) and/or Addictions and/or complex healthcare needs providing assessments and rehabilitation services

· Experience working in a community setting and strong knowledge of community resources, resident assessments, goal planning, life skills development and support

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Basic working knowledge of computer software

· Facilitating Psychosocial Education Groups and coordination of other after-hours programming

· Ability to work cooperatively and independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team

· Effective problem solving and decision-making skills

· Proficiency in managing challenging behaviours

· Excellent interpersonal/verbal/written communication skills

· Ability to maintain confidentiality as per PHIPA (Personal Health Information Protection Act)

· Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, with a working knowledge of Bill 68 inclusive of Community Treatment Orders, Residential Tenancy Act and the Health Care Consent Act

· Understands satisfactory standards of nutrition and hygiene

· Ability to advocate for residents

· Assisting residents with medication needs

· Knowledge/experience using the principles and practices of psychosocial rehabilitation

A formal French proficiency test will be conducted.

Salary: $20.30/hour

$36,946 yearly (*based on full-time hours)
