We are seeking an Apprentice Auto Body Technician who has completed their 3rd year of the Auto Body Technician apprenticeship program recognized by Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). The successful candidate will continue through the Auto Body Technician apprenticeship program as per AIT requirements, with the possibility of moving to a Journeyperson position within Fleet & Inventory Manufacturing after completing the program.
As an Apprentice you will be work under the direction of a Journeyperson Auto Body Technician to perform all types of auto body repairs. Reporting to the Team Lead Fleet Services, Body shop your primary duties include:
  • Design, build, repair, modify, paint, and refinish auto body damage.
  • Component replacement and alignment by removing damaged body parts; and returning vehicle to pre collision state.
  • Body sheet-metal work by hammering out and patching dents, dimples, and other minor body damage.
  • Conventional frame and unibody structural repairs by realigning frames and chassis.
  • Refinish surfaces including; matching custom colours to all industrial and automotive surfaces and applying new finishes to restored body parts.
  • Estimate the time and value of the auto body work to be repaired, for the purpose of organizing daily shop work throughput.


Qualifications
  • Must have completed three periods of the Auto body Technician program with the corresponding certificates. Recognized by Alberta apprenticeship and Industry Training.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Ability to obtain an air brake (Q) endorsement is required.
  • Ability to lift 20kg (45lbs) on a regular basis is required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude will be considered as an asset.
  • Previous training or experience in welding, upholstering, and framing, and/or wheel alignment will be considered assets.
  • You are a strong communicator who takes initiative and demonstrates well developed planning and organizational skills.
  • Success in this role requires you to demonstrate sound judgment in safety standards, excellent technical proficiency, interpersonal skills, customer service, and high work standards.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
