Job Summary:
The Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) will directly report to the Programs Manager and is responsible for engaging and empowering youth in the GTA and surrounding communities by providing access to programs and services to help overcome obstacles. The YOW will deliver workshops, facilitate youth projects, provide mentorship to the youth, and carry out related administrative duties. The YOW will also maintain professional relationships with school administration, parents, and partner/community organizations.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reports to the Programs Manager
- Develops, implements and evaluates youth activities and programs
- Provides one-on-one mentoring and maintains a detailed and confidential record of client information as necessary
- Provides detailed monthly reports and statistics
- Develops strategies to recruit youth participants, volunteers and mentors
- Works one-one-one with parents/families of at-risk youth to provide working solutions
- Reaches out and encourages youth to attend CanTYD hosted programs and events
- Facilitates delivery of informational and skill building workshops for youth and parents
- Facilitates school drop-ins, recreational drop-ins, CanTYD office drop-ins
- Supports and facilitates community based programs and activities
- Develops, implements and supports special projects and fundraising events
- Keeps up to date financial records for programs
- Provides assistance with grants and sponsorship initiatives
- Performs administrative duties as required
- Supports CanTYD committees and Board of Directors as required
- Ensures the CanTYD space is kept neat and tidy
- Available to work extended hours as required
Any changes to the responsibilities and/or the contract period due to funding situations of the organization will be made by CanTYD as necessary.
Key Qualifications:
- Sound understanding of issues faced by Canadian Tamil youth in GTA
- Sound knowledge of CanTYD’s mandate and organizational structure
- Ability to interact with youth informally, while continuing to maintain a level of professionalism
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, conflict resolution and time management skills
- Awareness of settlement issues within a new immigrant community
- Education or experience in a related field will be considered an asset
- Personal experience with CanTYD will be considered an asset
- Fluency in Tamil will be considered an asset
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Must have access to a computer, internet and cell phone
- Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
Hours of Work:
The Youth Outreach Worker is to work 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday. Working hours vary depending on youth programs. The YOW will be scheduled for 35 hours between 10am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement occasionally to start work earlier or finish later as the role dictates. This role may also require some travel as well as weekend work.
