Job Title: Community Service Navigator
Reports to: Executive Director
Term: Starting as soon as possible-September, 2027 (2 year contract)
Position Summary:
The First Step- Investing in Women’s Futures Program supports anyone who identifies as a
woman and has experienced gender-based violence/trauma, with their economic and career
goals. To do this, the program provides wrap around supports, short-term case management to
identify and mitigate barriers to economic success, facilitates goal setting and achievement of
goals related to income generation/employment.
The Community Service Navigator (CSN) will be a point of contact for clients and community
partners and create and implement group learning opportunities. The CSN will support women
to identify and connect to economic, career and skill building opportunities, as well as provide
wrap-around supports to remove barriers to economic success.
The Service Navigator will be responsible for the implementation and delivery of group support
and education, and work closely with other members of the WCYR team and external partners
to ensure clients have access to the services and supports required to meet their employment
and income generating goals
Roles and Responsibilities:
This position requires travel and working within York Region and the WCYR Office, and will be
required to work evenings and weekends to accommodate community events, workshops and
activities.
Group/Workshop Facilitation
- Implement and Execute Financial Empowerment and Exploring Careers groups
- Number and format of groups will be mutually determined annually, with a minimum of:
5 Exploring careers (EC) groups per year
- Utilize evaluation and feedback to update program content along with WCYR input
Events and Education:
- Work with partners to provide workshops and info sessions that complement education provided by FE/EC
- Support development of monthly calendar and flyer for IWF program offerings
Client Support:
- Support clients to reach goals, register for sessions/groups
- Support outreach and information sharing
Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in a related field (social services, social work, community
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills- ability to establish rapport and
excellent communication with clients, partners, staff
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of programs and services available in York Region
- Demonstrated experience planning, implementing and executing workshops or group
- Excellent conflict resolution and crisis management skills
- Experience outreaching and engaging with community
- Excellent administration/organizations skills, including but not limited to program logistics, work plan development, reporting, case notes, case management, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
