Woodshop Safety Orientation Contract Instructor
Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture’s Monterey Recreation Centre, located in the heart of the Oak Bay Village, specializes in recreational programming designed to keep adults of all ages, creating, moving, learning, and socializing. Adults 50 + years of age are eligible to become a Monterey Member for only $60/year, and gain access to discounts on select courses, events, day trips, and over 30 affordable volunteer led Social Clubs and Drop-in Activities.
We are currently seeking a Woodshop Safety Orientation Contract Instructor for Monterey Recreation Centre’s Woodcrafters Club. The contractor will prepare and instruct a Woodshop Safety Orientation including instruction on the safe use procedures for each machine. The contractor will assist in the production of a safety orientation training materials (i.e., video) for the Club Members to reference after training.
Contract Type: Contract for Service
Term: September-December 2025. Possibility of extension. Dates to be planned with Contractor and Monterey Recreation Centre Coordinator. Pay: $150.00/Workshop
Number of Workshops: 2-3. Workshop Length: 1.25 hrs approximate.
Time: Late weekday afternoon or early evening. Flexible.
Requirements:
· Experienced B.C. Certified Woodwork, Shop Teacher (Minimum 3 years) or;
· Red Seal Carpenter with Woodshop equipment knowledge and experience (Minimum 3 years);
· Knowledge and experience with saws, planers, drills, drill press, belt sanders, and routers.
· Current liability insurance listing the District of Oak Bay as additional insured.
· Current Police Information Check with vulnerable sector (must be on list of approved sources)
