Friends of Wye Marsh is a registered charity and incorporated not-for-profit responsible for managing the operations of the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is located on approximately 3,000 acres comprised of National Wildlife Area (NWA) and provincial crown land including environmentally significant wetlands and woodlands in Tay Township, in the Heart of Georgian Bay. We offer education, outdoor recreation opportunities, one-of-a-kind animal encounters, and the opportunity for visitors to explore kilometers of nature trails.
Position Overview
The Wildlife Educator is a front-line role responsible for delivering exceptional educational experiences to individuals and groups both at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, as well as off-site in the community. As a wildlife educator, you will be spend much of your time out in the community on visits to schools and other community organizations, educating on a range of topics related to wildlife conservation, as well as promoting the Wye Marsh. You will also be responsible for welcoming groups to the Wye Marsh, and accompanying school and other groups during their visits to the Wye Marsh, delivering memorable experiences through games, teaching, and other activity.
Responsibilities
· Conduct experiential curricular-based environmental education programs for a variety of age groups both at the Wye Marsh and at other locations.
· Facilitate interpretive presentations to the visiting public, school groups, camp groups, and others.
· Assist in the delivery of outdoor education programs such as guided hikes, animal demonstrations, canoe/kayak tours, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, etc
· Maintain work area and repair or report broken or damaged equipment and materials needed for program delivery.
· Support the Wye Marsh camp program by occasionally covering for camp staff during lunch breaks and other schedule gaps
· Enthusiastically greet members and visitors of the Wye Marsh, answering questions and providing education about ongoing programs and initiative, upcoming events, and navigation around the wye Marsh
· Facilitate children’s camp group activities during PA day and March Break Camps
· Take part in activities related to opening and /or closing the visitor centre and surrounding facilities/grounds.
· Routinely carry out checks of trails for visitor safety and education
· Take part in stewardship activities including invasive species pulls, various monitoring and reporting initiatives, and education workshops.
Qualifications:
· Ability to legally work in Canada
· Valid Ontario ‘G’ driver’s license, and access to reliable transportation
· Previous customer service experience
· Previous outdoor education experience preferred
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.60 per hour
