About the workplace
As Vancity’s next Vice President Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering, you’ll be responsible for providing the vision and leadership for developing and executing information technology strategies within cloud, infrastructure, and platforms in a hybrid cloud, fast-paced digital, partner rich, complex banking environment.
This role, reporting into the Chief Technology and Administration Officer (CTAO) serves as a key member of the Senior Technology Leadership team and directs strategic planning of systems infrastructure, future IT platform services in order to foster and support partner innovations that create competitive advantage, enhance the member experience, improve service quality, support business development, improve cost effectiveness, and lead to greater productivity and efficiency.
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid/remote working arrangements. Our head office is based in Vancouver, but we are open to candidates in Vancouver and Toronto.
A typical day would involve:
Strategy & Planning:
- Drives the vision of a scalable, secure and reliable Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as- a-Service (IaaS) partner based, complex infrastructural ecosystem that powers all of the Bank’s business segments
- Defines and executes a vision that enables full automation at all levels of infrastructure / platform / vendor integration including a multivendor hybrid cloud strategy
- Contributes to the Chief Technology & Administration Officer (CTAO) strategy and continuously participates as part of the CTAO Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
- Establishes highly productive relationships and partnerships for the benefit of Vancity
- Works with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and departmental managers to implement plans and policies throughout the organization
- Promotes the culture of transparency, ownership and innovation across all teams
- Collaborates with other teams to drive joint initiatives and promotes best practices across different in-scope disciplines
- Continuously motivates the team and drives ongoing improvements through measurable goals, training and team and process optimization
- Evaluates technology integration and strategic optimization opportunities across the Bank and participates in strategic and operational governance processes of the organization as a member of SLT
Operational Management:
- Leads the ongoing improvement and day to day management of a multi data centre and hybrid cloud banking environment
- Leads technology strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation of current and future IT systems across the company
- Develops a strong service management organization covering production operations and platform service offerings across different verticals, including Incident, Change, Problem, Release, Service Desk, Service Request and CMDB (configuration management database)
- Supports Agile transformation through SRE and DevOps practices and CI / CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) Platform Services
- Ensures that IT system operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations, contractual obligations, and established security protocols
- Establishes and maintains real time dashboards and reporting mechanisms enabling transparency around service quality at all levels
- Drives architectural improvements and modernization by continuously evaluating technology tool sets in production and workplace ops technology
- Develops business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spend and initiatives; strategically plan budgets across multiple groups based on business priorities and resource capacity
- Organizes executive reporting of progress on development projects, resource utilization, and production performance to the CTAO and ELT
- Ensures continuous delivery of IT and Platform services through oversight of service level agreements with departments and monitoring of IT systems performance
- Collaborates on the development, maintenance and execution of company-wide disaster recovery and continuity plans across all locations
You have:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in the field of computer science/engineering or information technology or equivalent
- At least 15 years of progressive experience (responsible for leadership and technology experience ideally in a financial or banking environment)
- Demonstrated leadership in developing and managing IT delivery and execution in a complex, fast paced and dynamic environment during times of significant growth and change
- Advanced expertise in team and capability building in a transformational environment
- Advanced experience in leading and modernizing a multi-datacentre, virtualized environment
- Advanced expertise in cloud technology and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) / Platform as a Service (PaaS)
- Advanced understanding of current trends in IT, security and risk management best practices, regulatory compliance, and collaboration
- Demonstrated expertise with delivery, architectural and governance frameworks like ITIL, TOGAF, SAFE and similar frameworks
- Skillful negotiator, with experience in both internal negotiations and conflict resolution and external vendor management
- Advanced strategic thinker with superior communication skills and problem-solving abilities; able to communicate as an executive business leader and as a technology leader
- Flexible, adaptable and resilient; will adapt approach as situations change in a fast paced and competitive environment
- Excellent planning, prioritization, and organizational skills; as well as budget preparation and management skills
- Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required

The salary range for this role is $177,200 to $266,000 annually. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
