The Veterinary Hospital Assistant is an integral part of the veterinary team by ensuring the smooth running of our facility, bringing comfort to our patients, and directly assisting our Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technologists.
The responsibility of a VHA is to:
Ensure all areas of our hospital are stocked, maintained, and clean for animals, and humans alike, while closely working alongside DVMs/RVTs. Tasks that are to be completed by a VHA include but are not limited to; restraining/holding of animals, hospital cleaning, garbage/disposal of hazardous materials, disposal of chemicals and chemical mixing, kennel/surgical set up/tear down, sanitization and sterilization of surgical instruments/packs, laundry, walking patients, stocking of examination rooms/treatment areas, soothe upset/frightened animals, processing of payments, appointment set up and payment for euthanasia appointments, post-euthanasia patient care (handling of deceased patients)/data sheets, correspondence with DVMs, RVTs, & CSRs to ensure hospital flow, among a variety of other tasks.

- To be organized, polite, compassionate, and helpful to all clients/their pets always.
- To be efficient and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced, often demanding environment.
- To maintain a clean hospital for animals and humans alike.
- To provide support to DVMs, RVTs & CSRs as needed.
- To possess the ability to practice safe holding techniques to maximize patient comfort while ensuring the safety of themselves and those around them at all times.
- To ask questions when unsure to facilitate learning and maintain a strong line of communication with Veterinarians (DVMs), Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTS, Client Services Representatives (CSRs), and Management.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge
- Veterinary Hospital Assistant Program Certificate is an asset
- Basic computer skills and ability to adapt to new technology.
- English grammar, spelling, reading, and writing skills.
About the Role
30-40 hours per week
Must be available Saturdays
