Our ideal candidate has graduated from secondary school or equivalent, complemented with additional courses in plan reading and underground utility locating, NULCA (National Utility Locating Contractors Association) certification (or approved equivalent), possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, three years’ experience working in a Public Works construction environment, considerable experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and locating buried infrastructure, sufficient health, physical condition, strength, stamina, and coordination to permit performance of work in all types of weather, in addition to Water Distribution Level II certification. Candidates may be required to complete testing or assessments as part of the selection process. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a supportive and collaborative work environment, continued career and professional development opportunities, employee engagement events, work-life balance, and a staff membership to the weightroom, fitness classes, skating and pool. An employer of choice, the District of Oak Bay is committed to fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, and teamwork.
