Tree Bylaw Administration Clerk
STATUS: Temporary Full-Time

SALARY: $30.08 - $35.32 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW
The City of Maple Ridge is currently recruiting for a Tree Bylaw Administration Clerk – a key administrative role supporting the implementation of the City's Tree Protection Bylaw. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys detailed clerical work, understands the importance of preserving green spaces, and thrives in a public-facing municipal environment.
This is varied and moderately complex clerical work involving tree regulations and procedures in accordance with the City’s Tree Protection Bylaw. The incumbent handles a range of enquiries and complaints related to tree matters, processes permit applications, maintains records, and provides information to internal departments and the public.
You’ll act as a key liaison between the community and City departments, exercising sound judgment in your day-to-day duties and escalating complex or policy-level issues to your supervisor. The work is performed under minimal supervision and reviewed in terms of adherence to established procedures and the quality of public service.
In This Role You Will:
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of grade 12 including or supplemented by post-secondary courses related to general office or business administration, plus sound related experience, preferably in a municipal administrative setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of the City’s Tree Bylaw and of applicable department rules and regulations, and policies as they relate to the work performed.
- Considerable knowledge of modern office methods, practices and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation and arithmetic.
- Considerable knowledge of computer equipment and of the application of a variety of basic office support, word processing and computer software related to the work.
- Sound knowledge of automated information systems used in the work.
- Sound knowledge of clerical and record keeping procedures.
- Sound knowledge of forestry principles, practices and procedures and of related bylaws and regulations.
- Sound knowledge of tree species.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and staff in supplying information and in explaining and interpreting by-laws and regulations, as related to the work performed.
- Ability to make decisions in accordance with applicable rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy and to maintain moderately complex records.
- Ability to type and compose routine and non-routine correspondence.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This is a temporary full-time role for approximately 12 months which may be extended or concluded due to unforeseen circumstances.
