As the Department Manager, you will be responsible for providing high quality, professional customer service and operations of a service and tire shop. Your key responsibilities are to ensure that daily operations are running in an efficient and profitable manner, to increase customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention, and to exceed customer expectations in the products and services that we offer. You have a proven track record of providing excellent customer service and troubleshooting solutions in a busy environment and have experience in the following:
Customer Service
- Continually enhance the customer service experience, creating engaged customers and facilitating organic growth through cross selling and upselling based on need
- Take ownership of customer issues and follow problems through to resolution
- Work alongside the Service Advisors to nurture an environment where all can excel through encouragement and empowerment
- Handle sales, provide competitive quotes, negotiate, book work orders, invoicing
- Keep ahead of industry developments, new products and apply best practices for areas of improvement
Business Operations
- Oversee all of the day-to-day functions of the tire shop from the front-end of the business, tire shop services, as well as the daily financials
- Ensure that all of the infrastructure pertaining to shop supplies and inventory is running smoothly and rectifying any issues or problems
- Perform inventory counts and reconciliations of supplies as required and for audit purposes
- Review inventory mix to ensure that all outdated/discounted product is moved quickly as to not make a negative affect on the overall operation
- Review monthly expenses
- Financial accountability for all daily transactions. Ensure proper processes are being done and that all transactions/monies are accounted for at the end of each business day
- Ensure that the physical building is in good operating order and that any areas of concern are addressed immediately, responsible for tire showroom area, displays and general housekeeping
- Provide the necessary training to all tire employees and ensure compliance with those Health & Safety rules/regulations to reduce any potential injuries within the workplace
Business Development
- Create and maintain a solid understanding of our competitor market, special offerings, pricing, labour costs, etc making necessary changes and adjustments as needed
- Review our advertising strategies and focus our efforts on targeted demographics
Staffing
- Create, understand and enhance the processes and tasks of each team member updating job descriptions as required
- Manage, direct, mentor and train all staff members in areas of responsibilities, shop operations, health & safety
- Handle all hiring/terminations, performance reviews, goal setting and wage adjustments
Qualifications
- At least 5 years working experience in a leadership position in the automotive trade with mechanical knowledge
- At least 5 years working in a tire shop environment
- Journeyman Automotive Service Technician is an asset
- A high energy, creative, self-starting leader who can take control of a function and acts as an agent of change
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to earn credibility and build strong relationships serve as an 'enabler' in achieving a profitable business operation
- Ability to lead, coach, mentor and develop employees to achieve both individual and team success
- Experience with PBS is an asset
