What is the opportunity?
Analyst will be expected to perform a number of critical Tax Operations functions related to the on-boarding of new and/or existing clients; local management of the collection, remittance and reporting of transactional and asset based taxes imposed by multiple jurisdictions. The team is aligned with other functional units within RBC CM that currently support RBC CM’s businesses. This individual will report to the Tax Operations Supervisor of the respective functional department.
What will you do?
Ensure local compliance of tax obligations (compliance, advisory, planning) regarding the identification, tax treatment, withholding and reporting of transactional and operational taxes, particular to the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), OECD Common Reporting Standards (CRS), Chapter 3/61, related Section Codes 305c, 302 etc, Hire Act (871m), Qualified Intermediary (QI), etc.
Undertake day to day activities of the Toronto Tax Operations Team for RBC CM business Units, which includes, but not limited to, Controls infrastructure; integration of Tax processes across various systems, departments and infrastructure.
Work actively with RBC Tax group to ensure that clients and entities are classified / certified correctly and that relevant documentation is completed to achieve appropriate taxation reportability classifications and with holdability rates.
Establish and maintain controls surrounding the due diligence, withholding and reporting of Taxes, ensuring these are effectively managed and any risks are escalated in accordance with RBC Risk and Compliance policies.
Establish a best practice approach in ensuring that clients, counterparties and internal business partners receive appropriate attention and that all queries are responded to and resolved in a timely fashion.
Ensure team, and related processes are kept up to date with changing tax regimes as they apply to RBC CM businesses and clients.
Assisting in the completion of audit preparedness planning and execution
Develop reporting and ensure provision of weekly, monthly and annual KPIs and KRIs.
Support all system testing and drive changes to improve process efficiency.
Ensure procedures are regularly maintained and updated for all processes.
Work to ensure that all projects raised internally or by the Operations Engineering Team are supported by the team and delivered to the best abilities of the team.
The RBC attestation policy should be adhered to by account preparers and all accounts accurately assigned with an appropriate attestation status within the month end timetable.
What you need to succeed?
University degree or College Diploma or any equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience.
3+ years in a Capital Markets and/or reconciliation based role
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Problem Solving /Analytical Thinking.
Diplomacy and tact to deal with staff and all levels of
internal and external clients.
