Float Pool Supervisor
Location: WRHN both Midtown and Chicopee

Position Summary :
The Float Pool Supervisor provides clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational oversight to Float Pool nursing and Clinical Assistant staff across the organization. Under the direction of the Float Pool Clinical Manager, the Supervisor serves as an expert clinician and mentor, fostering excellence in practice, supporting staff engagement, and advancing quality improvement initiatives.
The primary function of this role is to facilitate and sustain quality and process improvement initiatives aligned with the clinical practice plan and the organization’s strategic priorities. The Float Pool Supervisor will work collaboratively with the Float Pool Clinical Manager and Clinical Manager Lead (for After Hours Administration, Float Pool & Health Care Resource Team) to identify opportunities for improvement and support the implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of quality and standards of practice initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide on-the-ground leadership during shifts through rounding and check-ins with float pool staff to offer 1:1 mentorship, coaching, guidance, and clinical support.
- Facilitate regular communication with float staff and act as a liaison between the float team and unit-based teams.
- First response to staff performance concerns by way of providing education and learning support around policies, procedures and standard practices to promote quality patient care and efficient operation.
- Collaborate with unit Charge Nurses to support Float Pool staff in clinical operations, ensuring alignment with professional practice standards and unit-specific expectations. Provide structured follow-up and feedback to address identified learning needs and offer ongoing resource support to promote clinical excellence.
- Organize workflows and ensure that Float Pool staff understand their duties related to the program and departments.
Participates in regular staff meetings including meeting with EPLs and other leadership team meetings to support program development.
- Works in collaboration with the leadership team to support program development including participating in change management meetings with managers and other team leads.
- Assists in reinforcing staff awareness by helping to distribute timely updates and communications related to program developments and operational nuances.
- Mentor and facilitate the professional development of float nurses to ensure consistnet, high-quality care delivery across unit.
- Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of quality and process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and improving staff experience.
- Support the development, execution, and monitoring of skills improvement and competency plans.
- Follow up on and close clinical related SafetyNet reports, ensuring resolution and staff education where appropriate.
- Collaborate in employee recruitment, selection, onboarding, and retention strategies, including orientation and mentorship of new float staff.
- Anticipate operational needs and contribute to both short-term and long-term strategic planning with leadership.
- Foster a respectful and positive work environment that reflects the organization’s values and commitment to excellence.
- Ensure float nurses adhere to clinical standards, protocols, and organizational policies while promoting a culture of safety, inclusivity and continuous improvement.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred; · Current Certificate of Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- CPR, BCLS
- Additional education in adult learning or teaching Clinical Educator training—is considered a strong asset
- Certification in quality improvement is also an asset
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a mentorship or educational role (e.g., preceptor, clinical instructor, educator).
- Minimum 1-3 years’ leadership experience in a healthcare environment
- Committed to delivering consistent, high-quality care through strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and effective time management.
- Proven ability to work cooperatively with clinical leadership, frontline staff, and multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
