GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Supervisor, Digital Media and Creative Services leads the team responsible for graphic design, web support, development of digital media, and videography for Strategic Communications within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Primary responsibilities include:
Branch Supervision: Assists the manager with overall service delivery of creative and digital media content and services. Oversee day-to-day operations, managing intake, prioritization, and execution of creative and digital projects. Ensures all deliverables are developed in accordance with departmental and organizational strategy, meet accessibility requirements, and align with the organization’s brand standards.
Employee Development: Manages team workload using structured workflows to maintain timelines while ensuring that service and quality standards are met. Mentors, coaches and provides support to team members to achieve individual, team, and organizational goals.
Implementation of Strategies: Ensures collaboration with internal and external teams to ensure the Municipality’s objectives are supported with communications campaigns. Delivers municipal information in a timely, cost-effective, and audience-focused manner. Directs digital and video components of communication strategies, including multimedia campaigns and online paid advertising. Ensures video and graphic elements reinforce key messages and align with the Municipality’s brand standards.
Issues Management: Provides digital media or creative support relating to issues identified by the manager, director, senior leaders, or elected officials as needed. Actively contributes to emergency preparedness, response coordination, and continuity planning to support the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre as part of the broader communications effort.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong background in digital media planning, graphic design, and videography.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry best practices and digital processes.
- Demonstrated experience building relationships.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the proven ability to work with different audiences, personalities and experience levels.
- Strong writing and visual communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
- Experience in leading multidisciplinary creative teams in high-paced environments.
- Proven skills in campaign development, creative direction, and cross-channel digital advertising.
- Advanced understanding of content strategy, branding, and user experience.
- Ability to manage digital projects, including websites and intranet platforms.
- Ability to adapt to emergency communications needs and support incident response efforts.
- Working knowledge of Content Management System (CMS) platforms, Adobe Creative Cloud, and video editing software, such as Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (MS 365) tools, including SharePoint, Teams, and Planner.
EDUCATION:
- Degree in Visual or Digital Communications or other applicable discipline is required.
- Certification, or willingness and ability to obtain certification, in Basic Emergency Management (BEM) and Incident Command Systems (ICS) 100, 200, and 300 training is preferred, training will be provided by the Municipality.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of experience in the communications field including a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership/supervisory capacity.
- Background in leading digital solutions such as website, intranet, MS 365 solution development and rollout.
- Experience contributing to emergency communications or business continuity planning is an asset.
- Experience working in a public-sector environment with unionized and non-unionized employees is considered an asset.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Submission of a Criminal Record Check.
- A valid Class five (5) Operator’s License is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
