Job Overview

Hours: Centre hours are 7:30AM to 6PM Monday to Friday except for public holidays, and at this time, 8am – 5pm on all school holidays. Expected daily hours to be 11:30am-6pm, with a regular work week of 32.5 hours, longer hours during non-instructional days. Additional hours may occasionally be required, especially while covering for others on the management team.

Scope: The Supervisor works collaboratively with the Program Supervisor and Executive Director on all of the general operations of the childcare centre. The Supervisor must have a solid understanding of all of the policies, procedures and practices of Runnymede Adventure Club and must ensure the adherence to all in supervising a high-quality program and overall Centre management.

Responsibilities:

· Assists and supports the Program Supervisor/Executive Director with the overall Centre management including compliance of all legislative requirements, administrative and staffing requirements, which include but are not limited to: hiring, supervising, and managing staff performance

· Manages the day-to-day operations of the Centre in the absence of the Executive Director and/or Program Supervisor

· Assists in the implementation of all RAC policies and procedures to support all staff, students and volunteers and meet the children’s (family’s) needs

· Provides orientation for new hires, and acts as a resource for all staff, by providing staff leadership with regards to policies, procedures, and best practices of Runnymede Adventure Club

· Monitors and evaluates staff, with annual performance reviews

· Recommends and/or administers discipline where necessary

· Assists in the development and oversees the staff implementation of age-appropriate, innovative and quality programs which supports and maintains the pedagogical approach to How Does Learning Happen?, the ELECT document, along with the adherence to RAC’s Program Statement and current legislation and inspections, ie. the Early Learning and Care Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI)

· Models positive interactions for staff and children including sharing, cooperation, respect for others, supporting diversity and inclusion

· Participates in the health and safety of the centre

· Conducts team/staff meetings

· Has a continued focus on professional development and knowledge sharing with Centre staff

· Stays within budget for all Centre purchases as assigned

· Assumes other responsibilities as delegated by the Executive Director

Qualifications, required skills and credentials:

· Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators; a clear Vulnerable Criminal Reference Check, meet health requirements. Have CPR C and First Aid Certification. Child Care Management Certificate an asset, or registration for the course certificate within 3 months of obtaining the position;

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a licensed child care centre. Previous supervisory experience is an asset;

· In depth, working knowledge of government legislation relating to child care including but not limited to: the Child Care and Early Years Act, Assessment for Quality Improvement, Emergent Curriculum, How Does Learning Happen?, Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, WSIB, and Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.;

· Experience working in and/ or managing in a unionized environment is an asset;

· Experience in delivering high quality programs that meet RAC’s objectives and all legislative requirements;

· Experience in supervising and evaluating as well as leading, coaching and developing teams in a child care centre environment is an asset;

· Experience in child care centre operations and administration including but not limited to policy and procedure review and implementation, parent communication;

· Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize many different competing requirements simultaneously;

· Work collaboratively with the RAC management team and is articulate with professional communication skills, with the ability to interface with many different stakeholders;

· Excellent command of the English language (both oral and written); highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to co-operate, follow instructions and make difficult decisions; ability to manage conflict

· Must be responsive to client and staff needs; have strong problem-solving skills;

· Ability to evaluate and ensure that staff develop a program that is consistent with the Runnymede Adventure Club’s Program Statement and overall philosophy;

· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, email responses to stakeholders and the ability to learn new programs, as required;

· Relate in a professional manner with parents and caregivers and most importantly, always keep children as the top priority and strive to constantly improve.

Expected physical demands: standing, sitting for extended periods, climbing stairs, lifting heavy objects up to 60 lbs., bending, twisting and working in varied weather conditions indoors and outdoors. Runnymede Adventure Club is an equal opportunity employer.
