This position involves exercising the initiative in planning, coordinating, managing and executing field inspections, which include, but are not limited to, identification of structure repairs and rehabilitation needs and preparation of reports and recommendations. What You Will Do

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Structure Inspection, this job performs duties associated with structural inspections, non-destructive and destructive testing of existing Subway, LRT bridges, underground and elevated structures, as well as drainage system and other non-critical subway related structures. To this end, you will identify the overall structure condition and structural defects in accordance with TTC Structure Inspection Procedure and the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual, identify elements that require repairs or preventative maintenance, communicate recommendations to structure rehabilitation crews to conduct repairs and enter recommendations into urgent and high priority tracking system. You will also prepare inspection reports, document structure defects, analyze field inspection data and communicate inspection findings and recommendations to engineers and management and provide and keep accurate structure inspection records in accordance with established procedures/standards. You will also recommend and conduct further inspections beyond the usual visual inspections, utilizing various equipment, when required.

You will support the adaptation of Asset Management principles, development of Asset Management Plan and transition to the organization’s EAM software.

Where appropriate, you will train and familiarize Structural Technicians and Cooperative Program Students on inspection procedures, structure inspection filing systems and subway related structure inventory and provide input in preparation of Employee Performance Appraisals for Structural Technicians

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

  • Your educational background of completing a University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent alongside extensive working experience in structure inspections and rehabilitation.
  • Your application will demonstrate strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, inspection methods and repair / rehabilitation design of existing structures.
  • Your application will also demonstrate working experience in planning, coordinating, managing and executing field inspections and ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications and contract documents.
  • Knowledge and experience in performing non-destructive testing such as delamination survey, half-cell corrosion potential survey.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, guidelines and codes including the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual.
  • Experience in planning and setting up traffic protection during inspections at street level as per Ontario Traffic Manual.
  • Proficient in use of computer software such as MS Office, CADD, MicroStation, etc.
  • Good organizational and planning skills, along with well-developed and effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Must have, or rapidly acquire, a comprehensive knowledge in use of extensometers, ground penetrating radar, cover meters, and other instruments and cameras used during inspections.
    Ability to work with minimum supervision and ability to lead two to five person crew during field inspections.
