JOB DESCRIPTION: Slasher Operator
STATUS: Full-time, Hourly Position

JOB PURPOSE:
To operate and maintain slasher machine in a safe and efficient manner while creating fence posts and fire wood. A slasher is a specialized industrial saw used to cut logs, slabs, or scrap wood into specific lengths or dimensions for further processing.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Use controls to saw and sort logs into shorter lengths for making posts and poles.
- Physically straighten logs on conveyor to prevent jamming the saws and to maintain uniform spacing.
- Trim limbs and pre-sort logs to achieve better production.
- Use hand tools such as chainsaw.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Maintain production paperwork and records daily.
- Ensure workplace is kept tidy inside and outside booth. Includes shoveling snow off deck to ensure no ice builds up.
- Help to identify problems, develop options, and implement solutions with the help of the yard Millwright.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Chain saw experience.
- Equipment Operating experience (Experience operating loader is an asset.)
- Able to follow WorkSafe guidelines and demonstrate safe work practices.
- Technical Learning – ability to learn and comprehend new technical skills and knowledge
- Some mechanical ability.
- Training will be provided – requires a willingness to learn.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical endurance: Ability to work in a high-paced production environment requiring physical stamina.
- May occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
- Quality control: Ability to assess and maintain quality standards.
- Safety: Recognizing and adhering to safe work practices.
- Ability to keep accurate records and submit reports.
