Applications are invited for the regular part-time position of Simulation Lab Technician in the Health Sciences & Community, Justice and Fitness Division. The starting salary is $24.05 /hour for up to 24 hours per week. Additional hours may be required at peak times during the year, such as the start or end of term. The position is located at the Welland Campus.

Reporting to the Dean, Community Services, Justice & Fitness Studies, the successful candidate is responsible for the coordination, setup, maintenance, and support of simulation-based learning activities, including Virtual Reality (VR), across a variety of programs within the Health Sciences and Community, Justice, and Fitness Divisions. This role ensures a safe, organized, and effective simulation environment that supports student learning and bridges the gap between classroom instruction and clinical practice.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Instructs and assists simulation educators/faculty and learners in the use of simulation tools
  • Setup, monitoring, delivery, and takedown of simulation education sessions
  • Supports instructors in selecting an appropriate modality of simulation to meet learning objectives and that is appropriate for selected learners
  • Involved with scenario planning and design, and can advise on the integrity of the scenario
  • May be involved with the educational aspects of scenarios, including debriefing/feedback
  • Guide students in simulated skills training practice and remediation
  • Management of volunteer students supporting simulation delivery
  • Provides feedback to faculty regarding student progress
  • Communicates as necessary with other College departments and external stakeholders
  • Networks with community practice agencies to keep current on new supplies
  • Assists in maintaining reference materials
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of simulation-related hardware and software, and equipment


Qualifications:

  • Two (2) year diploma or degree in community services or health care field
  • Two (2) years of experience with simulation, including experience mentoring or teaching in a simulation setting
  • Niagara College Dementia Experience and Hearing Voices experience is necessary
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach would be an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and student success
    Works collaboratively within a team
  • Familiarity with low and high technology and its use in post-secondary simulated learning
  • Can effectively communicate both technical and non-technical matters in person and in writing with a diverse population of both health and non-health professionals
  • Technical expert who can set up, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and in some cases repair simulation equipment in various labs
