Position Title: Settlement Worker – Health & Wellbeing Focus

Reports to: Settlement Lead / Services Manager - Settlement
Summary
The Settlement Worker provides direct client services and supports newcomers in integrating and adapting to life in Canada. This position has a special focus on supporting newcomer clients to build through an integrated services approach; the Settlement Worker conducts detailed needs assessment and referrals, information and orientation, service bridging, community connections, support services, resource development, and ensures service accessibility for all eligible newcomer clients. This position will deliver health and wellbeing related workshops and provide one-to-one support using a trauma-informed approach to help distressed clients and increase positive mental health outcomes for newcomers. This position provides support virtually and in person.
Responsibilities
- Conducts needs and assets assessments, develop service/settlement plans, and provide services bridging and referrals using client-centered and strengths-based approaches
- Provides individuals and families with information and orientation using a range of service delivery methods (online, telephone, email, and in-person) in 1-1 or group-based settings to achieve program outcomes
- Designs, coordinates, and delivers group sessions and workshops on a range of health & wellbeing, mental health focus settlement topics using a variety of service delivery methods and from a gender-based analysis plus (GBA+) lens
- Assesses and responds to clients in crises or presenting with increased vulnerabilities and/or visible trauma (via phone, online, or in-person) and provides immediate support using violence/trauma-informed approaches and notifies supervisor when more in-depth service interventions are required
- Provides one-to-one sessions and group workshops to increase understanding of health & wellbeing, mental health support and to build strength and resiliency
- Assists clients in navigating the healthcare system, including connecting them to primary care providers, mental health services, and public health programs
- Offer emotional support, identify signs of distress, and refer clients to appropriate mental health professionals or crisis services
- Supports the settlement team building resilience and strength
- Keeps informed about current community, client, and service resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps in the general community and in specific client communities
- Provides eligible individuals and families information, orientation, community connections, and support services using a variety of delivery methods (online, telephone, email, and in-person)
- Conducts group information sessions and workshops using a variety of service delivery methods as suitable to meet deliverables
- Assesses and responds to clients in crises / presenting with visible trauma (via phone, online or in person) and provides immediate support and intervention, notifying others, the Leads and Managers, when a more in-depth service intervention is required
- Keeps informed of current resources, trends, needs, changes, and service gaps in the general community and in specific client communities
- Develops partnerships with service providers to effectively link clients with appropriate services support (e.g. Health facilities, Mental Health & Substance Use Services, Public Health & Preventive Services, recreation centres, etc.).
- Provides first language services as required to enhance the client experience, including providing document translation support as required
- Ensures service data is recorded in accordance with funder and organizational standards while adhering to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies
- Conducts outcomes measurement, program outreach and promotion, reporting, and client feedback collection
- Adopts performance and quality improvement (PQI) approaches in daily work to ensure the continual improvement of services to achieve program outcomes
- Complies with all organizational policies, procedures, standards, and directives, as wells as funder expectations and requirements
- Participates in organizational and team meetings, professional development and training opportunities, and evaluation and performance and quality improvement activities
- Upholds professional ethics and standards including but not limited to those pertaining to privacy, confidentiality, health and safety
- Performs other duties as assigned by Services Lead - Settlement or Services Manager - Settlement

Qualifications
- 3 years’ experience preferably working with immigrants and an understanding of the immigrant and refugee experience and settlement-integration stages/process
- Diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Services, Health Promotion, Public Health, Psychology, or a related field.
- Training and/or experience in Mental Health First Aid, de-escalation, violence/trauma-informed practice, health promotion or community health work
- Deep knowledge about the complex and intersectional needs, assets, barriers, and experiences of immigrants and their families, particularly from a GBA+ lens
- Knowledge about GBA+, anti-racist, violence/trauma-informed, and other equity-centered service practices
- Familiarity with health systems and community health models
- Strong knowledge of local systems and community resources and services on the North Shore
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT, Teams, SharePoint), Zoom, and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies required for excellent service delivery
- Ability to work in a team environment, as well as a capacity to self-motivate and work independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; second language an asset
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to support programming and service delivery needs during daytime and evening hours as required
- Must be able to work in-person from community locations across North Vancouver and West Vancouver on a daily basis if required
- Required to undergo an annual performance review, with potential changes to roles based on performance, evolving expectations, and the need to meet best service deliverables and organizational goals.
Additional Information
- Salary Range: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour, dependent on experience
- Work Schedule: 35 hours / week
- Start Date: as soon as possible
- Work Environment: This is a hybrid position that requires regular weekly in-office attendance, with one day flexibility for remote work.
