As part of the health care team, the Service Worker provides nursing with efficient support services by ordering, maintaining, and distributing unit supplies - this role is absolutely essential to maintain effective day to day functioning of our inpatient unit. This position is responsible for maintaining and cleaning of clinical equipment. Using a team approach, the Service Worker assists other healthcare professionals with non-clinical duties to meet patient care needs. The Service Worker is accountable for the application of safety practices such as isolation precautions, sterile processing, universal precautions, and WHMIS. Additionally as a member of the healthcare team, the Service Worker is expected to follow preventative guidelines to support patient and employee safety in the healthcare environment.
Description:
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of a High School diploma or equivalent is required. English fluently is required - ability to read, speak and write English. Demonstrated initiative with strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills required. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills required. Ability to be flexible and to work with minimal supervision required. Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities. Good time management/strong organizational skills. Proficiency with basic computer skills (MS Office, Internet Explorer, Email etc.). Must have a positive attitude and demonstrate the ability to contribute to a positive work environment. Previous experience in service worker or experience in a health care setting is strongly recommended. WHMIS training is required.
