About the role:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Senior Developers are key technologists on a product delivery team. They contribute to both front-end and back-end architecture and implementation, helping guide the team in designing scalable, secure, and performant applications.In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping the technical direction of projects, ensuring that work is well-sequenced, high-quality, and aligned with customer needs. You’ll bring a solution-oriented mindset, deep coding expertise, and an interest in mentoring peers. You will also be responsible for delivering features end-to-end—from database to user interface—while promoting best practices in testing, observability, and continuous delivery.
A day in the life:
- Design, develop, test, and debug full-stack software (front-end and back-end) with high quality, as a full-time member of a cross-functional product team.
- Spend 70%+ of your time coding production-ready features, improving system architecture, and reducing technical debt.
- Provide technical leadership for your team and assist in improving your colleagues’ skills through code reviews, technical mentoring, role-modelling, coaching, and knowledge-sharing.
- Lead technical innovation in the areas of component re-use, extensibility, maintainability and scalability.
- Monitor your applications in production and proactively identify and fix issues clients are encountering.
- Contribute to defining and implementing the product-wide technical roadmap, ensuring the success of technical cross-team initiatives and responsible adoption of new technologies that are aligned with industry trends.
- In the future, participate in an on-call rotation (that respects your time) to support your team’s software.
- Identify gaps in product requirements and work with Product Owners to design features that meet client needs
- Plan, implement and execute end to end automated tests that validate good quality results. Evolve AlayaCare’s testing practices.
- Help team members understand core concepts and tools of their craft.
- Anticipate problems, recognize barriers, and proactively raise concerns to management and to senior members of the technical organization.
What you bring to the team:
- 4+ years professional software engineering experience (full-stack development)
- Deep development experience in Python and using PyTest for unit testing
- Deep development experience in JavaScript and frontend frameworks such as Vue.js (preferred), React, or Angular and corresponding unit testing frameworks
- Experience using SQL databases, Git, CI/CD tools, Docker, SQLAlchemy, cloud computing platforms (AWS preferred)
- PHP is an asset
- Awareness of contemporary industry trends in technology, performance, and software development tooling & practice
- Experience making difficult technical decisions in ambiguous situations
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills (written and spoken) in English, with the ability to tailor your message to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- French is considered an asset.
Location and travel requirements:
AlayaCare supports a flexible hybrid working model, expecting that our employees have a regular in-office presence at their closest office location while offering flexibility for some remote work. Our team encourages in-person collaboration and with this, the preferred candidate location for this position would be within the Greater Montreal Area.
