School Age Program Supervisor I (PART TIME)

The Vancouver Society of Children's Centres (VSOCC) understands that children are competent, capable, and will reach their full potential when they actively participate in their own play and learning. We are searching for a part-time Program Supervisor to lead a team of school age educators to provide after school care, and full-day care during school scheduled breaks. The Program Supervisor primary responsibility is for nurturing and guiding approximately 25 - 30 children, in one program for children aged 5 to 12 years while maintaining a collaborative team environment. Reports to:
Program Supervisor reports to the Program Manager.
You are able to:
- Plan, implement, document and evaluate emergent curriculum and activities reflective of individual and group interests and needs of children and families.
- Plan curriculum with a focus on recreation, leadership, arts, sports, social justice, and environmental awareness
- Foster a strong sense of belonging, inclusion and collaboration.
- Provide for the health, safety and emotional wellbeing of children.
- Build and maintain strong “shared caring” partnerships with families.
- Maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with VSOCC colleagues and community partners.
In addition to being a wonderful and positive person & team player, you must have:
- Completed course(s), of at least 20 hours duration, in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition
- Child Care First Aid, Basic First Aid (previously OFA Level 1) & Food Safe Certification. If you do not currently hold these certifications, we still encourage you to apply. Successful candidates will need to obtain the certification prior to starting their role with VSOCC.
Additional skills and experiences may include:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a licensed childcare program with school age children.
- Minimum 1 year supervisory experience.

Strong knowledge and awareness of:
- Child development and needs of school age children;
- Program planning for school age children. Understanding of BC Early Learning Framework, an asset;
- Family engagement strategies and parenting issues within a diverse community.

Knowledge & experience with:
- Leadership, supervision, facilitation techniques and team building;
- Children with extra support needs, and supports and resources for families. Child care and its role in schools and community.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and demonstrate good judgment.
- Functional computer literacy in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Post-secondary training in School Age Care, Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth, Recreation, Education or related fields.
- A Second Language.
Terms of Employment:
- Regular part-time: 5.5 hours per day from Monday to Friday (12:30PM to 6:00PM) and 7.5 hours per day during school scheduled breaks (Professional Development Days and Winter, Spring & Summer Breaks).
- Salary: $32.01 per hour plus employer-paid health and welfare benefits.
