Resident Childcare Support Worker

Purpose...

The Resident Child Support Worker provides childcare and child support to children living at Radiance. Planning and delivering varied programming for children of all ages. In addition, this position provides support in the Radiance Children’s Centre. The Resident Child Support Worker works alongside members of the Resident Services Team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities...

• Prepare and implement a program plan that is age appropriate, stimulating, and supports children’s physical, emotional, social, cognitive, creative and language development.
• Engage in emergent, FLIGHT framework curriculum that highlights brilliance in children, engages and supports parents and acknowledges the need for families to have ally’s and supports during traumatic experiences.
• Ensure children’s personal and physical needs are met (example: feeding, child’s hygiene, changing diapers and clothing, toileting, etc.)
• Ensure client files are well maintained, with up-to-date accounts of activities offered and implemented, child responses and other details that celebrate the uniqueness of each child.
• Advanced understanding of child development, including ages and stages of development and the potential effects of traumatic events on children.
• Demonstrate compassion, empathy and non-judgmental environment for children and parents alike who chose to access our services.
• Model and encourage appropriate problem-solving skills, expression of feelings and emotions and social skills.
• Offer and support opportunities for parents and children to build, strengthen and repair bonds with each other through acts of play.
• Ensure healthy, strength focused communication is maintained, verbally and written amongst our diverse team.
• Engage in critical thinking, focusing on how best to support our team, our children and their parents, with a willingness to try creative solutions.
• Ensure daily and monthly administrative tasks are completed with accuracy and integrity. This include but is not limited to attendance, medication administration, clear program planning, client specific goals.
• Ensure all provincial government licensing standards and requirements are consistently met. This includes but is not limited to healthy safety checklists, ensuring toys and play structures are in good repair and environments are set up to encourage self-directed play.
• Engage in monthly supervisions, regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
• Establish and maintain healthy professional codes of conduct, understanding the importance of confidentiality and ethical/respectful practice that upholds the dignity of those we are here to support.
• Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Qualifications required...

• Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, or related field required.
• Minimum Level 3 early childhood educator certification required.
• 2+ years of experience working in a related field required.
• Experience working with family violence, trauma, addictions, and mental illness an asset.
• In depth knowledge regarding childhood trauma and intervention methods used to support child wellness.
• Knowledge of trauma on brain development is an asset (Brain Story).
• Competent computer skills including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data tracking IT systems required.
• Trauma Informed Care & Assist training certificate preferred.

Mandatory requirements...

• Clear Police Security & Vulnerable Sector Check maintained.
• Clear Child Intervention Check maintained.
• Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C.
• Mon – Fri: 10am – 6pm; with some weekends and evening shifts throughout the year.
• Indoor and outdoor activities.
• Standing, bending, crouching, and lifting required.
• This role is not eligible for Hybrid Remote work.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $23.00-$24.00 per hour
