Who we're looking for:

We're looking for a Full-time Reporter (1-year contract) for OMNI Television. You can work independently, but also as part of a diverse newsroom.

You will be responsible for working on stories both in the studio, and out in the field for multiple media platforms.

If you speak, read and write in Punjabi fluently and have a passion for news, then OMNI news wants to meet you. We are looking for a talented reporter to deliver compelling stories that resonate with Canada’s Punjabi community. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the Punjabi community in Canada, strong background in journalism and a passion for innovation in news coverage.


What you'll do:

  • Pitch, chase, write, research and present compelling stories and segments on-air for the regional and national newscast with an emphasis on content for the Punjabi community in Canada
  • Monitor all news sources and be on top of breaking news and developing situations and assist in breaking news coverage
  • Back-fill for Anchor shifts as needed, and work multiple shifts including evenings and weekends, as required

What you bring:

  • Speak fluently in Punjabi, read and write Punjabi, and have a minimum basic working knowledge of English
  • Must be able to take direction well and willing to adapt to rapidly changing technology
  • Minimum of 1-2 years broadcast experience in news with strong news judgment, good writing skills, knowledge of current events, and excellent communication and people skills
  • Effective collaborator who believes in team work
  • Degree or Diploma in Broadcast Journalism or related field and/or equivalent experience an asset
