The City of Abbotsford is looking for Auxiliary Recreation Workers – Community Recreation Leaders to join our Parks, Recreation & Culture team. Under the supervision of the Community Recreation Programmers, Community Recreation Leaders are responsible for planning and facilitating a variety of social, cultural, sport and general interest activities for early years, child, youth and adult programs.

Duties:
- Plan and lead pre-registered programs (sports, arts & crafts, dance, cooking, early years, parent participation, children, youth & adult)
- Supervise, facilitate and lead drop-in sessions
- Supervise Birthday parties
- Childminding
- Lead games, sports, and craft making activities with children
- Lead activities at special events
- Set-up and take down of programs
- Report safety hazards and respond to first aid incidents appropriately
Qualifications:
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR ‘C’ & AED certification
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development Certificate
- Knowledge and experience playing/instructing a variety of sports.
- Knowledge and experience instructing a variety of recreation programs and activities.
- Knowledge and experience leading/supervising children (newborn - 12) while providing a safe & fun environment for participants.
- Knowledge and experience leading games and craft making activities with children.
- Leadership skills including ability to model appropriate behaviors and demonstrate sound judgment while creating a positive, enthusiastic & fun environment.
Candidates are required to provide a satisfactory Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check in order to work in this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position. It is the responsibility of the candidate to report to their manager any criminal charges laid against them during their term in this position.
