As a Recreation Manager with the City of Port Coquitlam, you’ll help shape spaces and experiences that inspire joy, connection, and wellbeing centered around people and community. You’ll be part of a collaborative and passionate team making recreation not just accessible, but meaningful and fun for everyone. You’ll work closely with residents, user groups, other departments, and staff to ensure our programs and services are responsive to the diverse trends and evolving needs of our growing city. From shaping inclusive, engaging programming to supporting a dedicated team of recreation professionals, you will help ensure that every visit to our facilities is a positive, welcoming, and enjoyable experience.
Your portfolio will be tailored to your strengths, with opportunities for growth, and may include oversight of aquatics, youth and children’s programming, and collaboration with facility users as well as front-line teams to ensure our spaces are safe, vibrant, and full of life.

Our ideal candidate brings a mix of experience, vision, and people skills to help us deliver high-quality, inclusive, and innovative recreation services and will need to bring:
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation Management, Facility Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in recreation leadership, ideally within a unionized environment.
- A creative and forward-thinking approach to recreation programming and service delivery.
- A passion for developing and empowering teams—you're someone who brings out the best in others.
- A talent for building strong relationships with staff, stakeholders, and community members, earning trust quickly.
- A collaborative leadership style, with the confidence to make clear, thoughtful decisions when needed.
- A focus on customer experience and community engagement, and you inspire that mindset in those you lead.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills—you listen, analyze, and act with purpose.
- Experience with strategic planning and driving service improvements grounded in best practices.
- Excellent written communication skills, especially when preparing clear, reader-friendly reports.
- Integrity, accountability, and a “lead by example” mindset.
