Program Coordinator - Arts and Culture

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Program Coordinator assists the respective Recreation Programmers with the development, implementation, execution, monitoring and evaluation of programs and events and exhibits including supervising and coaching part-time staff and volunteers. This role will assist the Recreation Programmer to increase awareness and encourage community participation in programs and events at the Town’s recreational facilities.

In addition, assists the Arts and Culture staff team (visual arts, performing arts, cultural events and programs, and history/heritage) with specific initiatives to increase arts and culture awareness and encourage community participation in programs, events and exhibits at the Town’s cultural facilities.

Job Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma in Recreation or a directly related field combined with 2 or more years’ experience working in recreation programs or equivalent experience.

  • Advanced demonstrated effective leadership in recreation planning/programming (i.e. events, culture, etc.) that includes supervision of staff.

  • Knowledge of the visual arts sector and industry best practices (gallery exhibition coordination experience).

  • Knowledge and experience coordinating activities and events both indoors and outdoors with an emphasis on arts and culture.

  • Experience in recruitment and selection procedures, payroll processes and e-recruit software.

  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to maintain composure regardless of the demands of the environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal, public relations, organizational and supervisory skills.

  • Experience and strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of various computer systems related to report preparation, spreadsheet applications, graphics, registration systems, contract development, financial reconciliation, scheduling systems and Microsoft Office. Xplor experience is an asset.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the various pieces of legislation that govern bookings and special community events including, but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Public Health Act, Corporate Standards bylaw, Municipal Alcohol Policy, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Employment Standards Act, and Municipal Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.

  • Working knowledge of Parks and Recreation Ontario (PRO), Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO), Central Counties Tourism, community event planning and administration models and best practices, municipal recreation and culture program/service delivery.

  • Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR-C.

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention or Safe Management certification or equivalent is an asset.

  • Class G Driver’s Licence in good standing and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.

  • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

  • Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, special events, and at different sites of which 50% - 70% of time is during evenings and weekends.
