Position Summary:
We are seeking a production planner to effectively prioritize, plan and schedule production activities by tracking machine capacities, work order priorities and staffing requirements to effectively meet customer delivery requirements.
The Production Planner reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Effectively plan and schedule production activities - This includes processing work orders, prioritizing them based on machine capacity, staffing, and customer requirements, and ensuring all necessary materials and documentation are available before releasing orders to production.
2. Maintain production order integrity and communicate progress - Ensuring all orders are accurate and up to date—including materials, dates, packing, and drawings—and maintaining continuous communication with supervisors and customer service to address issues or changes that might impact delivery timelines.
3. Monitor and resolve production-related errors and reporting - Clearing production errors daily to avoid delays, confirming manual orders, reconciling weights, filing documentation, and preparing reports or spreadsheets to communicate priorities and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Major Responsibilities
- Processes work orders from production requisitions. This includes, setting up work orders in the system; printing work orders; splitting work orders; ensuring drawings are attached; ensuring material is available before release and the filing of work orders
- Maintain the integrity of all orders, material, crates, dates, packing and/or any other changes required to ensure the smooth transition of production orders to the shop floor
- Communicates frequently with the production supervisors to stay informed about issues that may impact work order completion dates
- Works with Customer Service on inquiries regarding production scheduling
- Production control system errors for all work centres to be cleared daily in order to maintain inventory integrity and removes errors that cause delays in shipping.
- Manual confirmation of orders that do not auto-confirm, reconcile coil weights, terminating coil cards and filing
- Develops and issues a variety of reports
- Prepare spreadsheet to communicate priorities to the manufacturing, as required
- Contributes to continuous improvement program by participating as team member on project assignments
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or (GED)
- Sound leadership and decision-making abilities
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Organizational / planning skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Previous planning/scheduling experience preferred
- Knowledge of SAP / other ERP software would be an asset
