POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Banquets, the successful candidate will be responsible for setting, serving and tearing down of the banquet functions according to the standards of the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of the Banquet Houseman include but are not limited to:
- Maintains professional internal/external guest service: smiles, creates eye contact, and uses associates/guest names
- Attends briefings of upcoming events and review’s function sheet
- Communicate with the Banquet Captains to ensure that set-ups are completed accurately and in a timely manner; ensure proper communication within the Banquet team
- Set up all function rooms according to instructions and standards ~Positions tables, dance floors, podiums, extension cords, microphones, audio-visual equipment as required
- Service all meeting rooms while meeting all Banquet standards
- Maintain and control all meeting room supplies such as mints, pens etc.
- Maintain control, inventory, and delivery of boxes and materials arriving for meeting rooms
- Carries out general cleaning and checking of room and equipment prior to function
- Maintain proper care, movement, and storage of all equipment used by the Banquet department
- Reports equipment deficiencies and/or concerns to Banquet Captain on duty immediately
- Upon guest request, locate and deliver convention material to designated locations. Assists clients in loading and storing of boxes
- Prepares for next function by “tearing down” set up; Also performs other related duties as required (eg. Banquet Server, Bartender, Buffet, and Bar Runner, etc.)
- Understands the need and willingness to work in other related outlets during peak periods when required
- Ensures all duties on task list are completed; Carries out duties associated with off-site catering
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Banquet Captains or Director of Banquets
- Installing internet lines and telephones
- Performs other related duties as required
COMPETENCY PROFILE
- Must be extremely well organized and detail oriented and completes all duties in a quick and efficient manner.
- Houseman experiences an asset; Knowledge of hotel set ups and policies & procedures in Banquets is highly desired
- Ability to follow instruction with minimal supervision is imperative. Excellent observational skills.
- Individual must be highly motivated and possess excellent communication (both verbal and written) as well as and interpersonal skills. Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English proficiently
- Must have proven ability to handle workload provided. Physical fitness and strength is essential - must be able to bend, squat and lift up to 75 lbs on regular and continuous basis.
- Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuous basis.
- Able to meet tight deadlines, turn a function room around quickly.
- Excellent guest service skills are required. Interacts with guests in a courteous and efficient manner, an eye for detail and high standards of cleanliness. Able to anticipate and meet our guests' needs and an insatiable desire to attain the highest levels of quality and cleanliness in all areas of the hotel.
- Candidate must have demonstrated initiative, past success with working as part of a team, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision. Maintain professional business confidentiality as required.
- Knowledge of safety standards, Knowledge of appropriate equipment to use for moving heavy items

- On Call, Hourly Position (unrestricted availability required)
- Flexibility Required: Rotating Shifts, Day & Evening Shifts (late nights, graveyard shift), Weekends Involved

SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications and Technical Experience
- “Serving It Right” Certificate required
- Fluent spoken and written English is mandatory; additional language(s) is considered an asset
- Must have previous experience as a houseman (minimum 1 year hotel experience preferred), with sound Banquet knowledge
- Knowledge of function preparation and room set-ups will be considered a strong asset
- Audio-Visual equipment setup experience an asset.
