We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Plant Coordinator to oversee our daily cylinder filling production, manage delivery driver schedules, and coordinate cylinder trailer logistics for our Western Gasco branches.
Job Summary:
The Plant Coordinator/ Relief Driver is responsible for the efficient and safe day-to-day operation of the cylinder filling plant. This role involves direct oversight of production activities, optimizing the daily delivery schedule for drivers, and strategically managing the movement of cylinder trailers to and from Western Gasco branches. The Plant Coordinator/Relief Driver will ensure all operations meet safety standards, production targets, and customer demands.
Responsibilities:
Cylinder Filling Production:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the daily cylinder filling operation, ensuring production targets are met safely and efficiently.
- Monitor equipment performance and conduct routine checks to ensure optimal functionality and adherence to safety protocols.
- Implement and enforce all safety regulations and procedures related to gas handling and cylinder filling.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records, including fill rates, quality control, and inventory levels.
- Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of all cylinder filling equipment.
Daily Driver Scheduling & Logistics:
- Manage the daily scheduler for delivery drivers, optimizing routes for efficiency, timely customer deliveries.
- Coordinate with the sales team and customer service to prioritize urgent deliveries and address any scheduling conflicts.
- Handle inquiries and issues related to deliveries, maintaining clear communication with drivers and customers.
- Back up driver whenever required, Vacation, Sick day coverage etc.
Cylinder Trailer Scheduling & Management:
- Execute the cylinder trailer schedule for all Western Gasco branches, ensuring adequate supply.
- Coordinate with branch managers to understand their cylinder needs and adjust schedules accordingly.
- Manage the inventory of cylinders in the yard and ensure proper organization and storage of full and empty trailers.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of cylinder trailers, ensuring proper securing and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Liaise with external trucking companies for timely pick-ups and deliveries of trailers.
General Operations & Leadership:
- Train, mentor, and supervise plant personnel, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Implement and maintain high standards of housekeeping and organization throughout the plant and yard.
- Collaborate with management to identify areas for process improvement and implement efficiency initiatives.
- Act as a key point of contact for operational issues and emergencies within the plant.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory or lead hand experience in a production or logistics environment, preferably within the gas or industrial supply industry.
- Strong understanding of cylinder filling operations and safety protocols.
- Proven experience in logistics and scheduling, particularly for a delivery fleet.
- Valid driver's license class 3 with a clean driving record, 5 years Previous experience.
- Forklift certification and WHMIS certification are required.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in using scheduling software.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of welding supplies and industrial gases is a significant asset.
- Ability to use a smartphone and other mobile devices for operational management.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (> 60 lbs) safely, when required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach.
- Ability to work in a warehouse and production environment with varying temperatures and noise levels.
