The Role
This is a critical leadership role for our Canadian facility in South Slocan BC, responsible for overseeing accounting operations, payroll, financial reporting, and cash management. You’ll supervise two internal bookkeepers and coordinate closely with the CFO and operations leads. This is an ideal position for someone who thrives in a high-accountability, high-autonomy environment — and wants to grow with the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the month-end close, reconciliations, and internal reporting process
- Manage payroll, benefits, and CRA remittances; ensure compliance with Canadian tax rules
- Supervise AP/AR, vendor payments, customer collections, and banking
- Review and approve customer credit and monitor financial risk exposure
- Prepare internal financial statements and support external audits
- Maintain and improve accounting processes, controls, and ERP data integrity
- Coach, mentor, and oversee two Bookkeepers; ensure task alignment and development
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to support business planning
- Assist with budgeting, variance analysis, and cash flow forecasting
Qualifications
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ progressive accounting experience; 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role
- Knowledge of Canadian GAAP, tax law, payroll compliance, and month-end processes
- Strong ERP experience (Odoo preferred, or equivalent)
- Exceptional accuracy, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Clear communicator; able to liaise with internal teams and external advisors
Nice-to-Have:
- CPA designation (or in progress)
- Experience in manufacturing, inventory, or job-costing environments
- Familiarity with CRA audits or SR&ED claims
