We are currently accepting applications for a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Physical Education Instructor to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year to support our team at Janice McTighe Centre (2050 21 St. NE) and Thomas Buchanan Centre (75 Sunpark Dr. SE).

Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and deliver a developmentally appropriate physical education and recreation program for elementary students.
· Design active, engaging, and inclusive programming tailored to the needs of students with diverse abilities.
· Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement gym-based activities, adapting for individual student abilities as needed.
· Coordinate and lead weekly fitness room sessions for student groups.
· Plan and supervise a variety of outdoor activities and support the organization of school-wide assemblies.
· Organize and implement the annual Sports Day event (e.g., Terry Fox, Family Days, Butterfield Acres)
· Coordinate special leadership activities for Renfrew Leaders.
· Manage and organize physical education equipment for daily activities.
· Order and maintain physical education equipment and supplies.
· Present staff in-services on the safe and effective use of equipment.
· Update and maintain general equipment information for school manuals.
· In collaboration with the Physical Therapist, facilitate group programming for students with severe physical disabilities (supporting EEP/JH/HS students), including activity planning, implementation, and documentation.
· Support the development of motor function skills, including range of motion, muscle strengthening, walking, and standing.
· Support the school’s life skills initiatives, such as hotdog days and concession activities, and plan events to enhance school-wide celebrations (e.g., Colour Day, Book Week, Crazy Hair Day).
· Assist in the coordination and delivery of school assemblies.
· Develop lesson plans and an annual year plan, ensuring alignment with the Program of Studies curriculum.
· Support and help coordinate physical education and wellness field trips.
· Assist with the delivery of the “My Changing Body” curriculum and other components of the Physical Education and Wellness Program of Studies.
Qualifications:
· A degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field is required.
· Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working with children and youth, preferably in a school, therapeutic, or special education setting.
· Experience planning and implementing physical education programs using developmentally appropriate and inclusive practices.
· Familiarity with adapted physical activity for children with disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and behavioral needs.
· Comfortable leading group activities, facilitating student engagement, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., classroom staff, therapists).
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programming and special events.
· Design and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate program tailored to the needs of each child.
· Must be willing to travel between program sites in Calgary (Janice McTighe Centre and Thomas Buchanan Centre).
· Capable of maintaining program statistics for purposes of evaluation and assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of programs.
· Must have a clean, valid Alberta driver’s license.
· A reliable vehicle, auto insurance with a minimum $2,000,000.00 liability and driver’s license is required.

· Successful candidates must provide us with a valid ‘Calgary Police Check with Vulnerable Sector’ dated within 3 months prior to their start date.
· ‘Intervention Record Check through Alberta Child Services’ is also required, however, we can support you with completing this during your onboarding.
