Job Overview
The Support Worker plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and assistance to individuals in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and private residences. This position requires a dedicated individual who is committed to enhancing the quality of life for those they support, particularly individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia, or other special needs. The Support Worker will assist clients with daily living activities, ensure their safety and well-being, and promote independence through personalized care plans.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient care and support in accordance with individual care plans.
- Monitor clients' health by observing vital signs and reporting any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Assist with medication administration as directed by healthcare providers.
- Engage clients in social activities to promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.
- Provide support for individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism and Alzheimer’s care.
- Utilize specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary for patient mobility.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect client confidentiality.
Skills
- First aid and CPR certification are highly desirable.
- Experience in group homes or assisted living settings is preferred.
- Strong patient observation skills to monitor changes in health status.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting as needed for client mobility support.
- Knowledge of memory care techniques and dementia care strategies.
- Experience with direct support roles in nursing homes or long-term care facilities is beneficial.
- Familiarity with home health practices and hospice care principles is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
