Part-Time Building Maintenance Person

Our Class A, six-story building in downtown St. Catharines needs an experienced and professional Part-Time Building Maintenance person to join our Accel North Team.
Role Type and Shift:
- Part-Time position with expectation of being onsite 1-2 days per week for a total of approximately 20 hours per month. Flexibility for emergencies or special projects is required.
Who:
- Great for someone with a small handyperson or commercial building maintenance company looking to expand with a long-term part-time role. Experience with commercial buildings such as hotels, multi-story office buildings, medical buildings, schools, etc.
- Someone who has a background in general construction is preferred
- Someone who lives in St. Catharines and has access to their own vehicle for transportation
Overview of Required Skills, etc.:
- Willing to work part-time, approximately 20 hours per month; all work will be pre-scheduled and communicated.
- Strong attention to detail and takes ownership and pride in the tasks and projects they perform
- Experience working as part of a team
- Strong communication skills to ensure you are aligned with our management team
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must have a smartphone and be comfortable using apps on the phone for tasks and communication
- Commercial HVAC maintenance skills
- Strong drywall repair skills
- Ability to paint to a high standard
- Moderate commercial electrical ability
- Moderate plumbing skills for repairs, etc.
- Understanding of fire systems, including emergency lighting, etc.
- Valid driver’s license and own vehicle to run errands; mileage will be reimbursed
Job Description:
Building Operations
- Responsible for any maintenance and repairs where possible before moving to 3rd party trades
- Complete regular checklists and logs, i.e. weekly and monthly fire inspections, HVAC inspections, elevator inspections, alarm systems, etc.
- Working with the Management team to assist members with pre-scheduled tasks
- Keep detailed records and logs of issues, events and resolutions
General Construction Skills
- Responsible for drywall and office repairs when a member vacates to return offices to move-in ready condition
- Painting during renovation projects and building touch-ups
- Plumbing experience required
- Preference to those with the skills and background to be hands-on to complete renovation projects, including building new drywall offices or working with modular walls
- Experience with building out metal stud walls, installation of new drywall, insulation, drywall compound, etc., to be paint-ready preferred
- Running and installing the electrical in prep for final connection by a licensed electrician
Building Technology (previous experience in this area is not required, but is an asset)
- Running cables and assisting with internet access throughout the building
- Security camera management – ensure all cameras are working, update camera software to ensure the property management team can easily search and locate footage
- Audio Visual – assist with installing and managing various AV requirements in the building, including meeting and boardrooms, event space, etc.
Requirements:
- 8-10 years of experience as a professional handyperson or running your own small business taking care of commercial properties. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of your skills and background
- Willingness to tackle a variety of tasks, while managing risk and cost
- Thrive in organizations that constantly evolve and adapt
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Tech skills and the ability to learn is an asset
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Knowledge of Ontario Building and Fire Codes preferred
- Strong computer skills preferred
- Knowledge of and certification for WHMIS, and Working at Heights.
- Knowledge of techniques of good body mechanics to prevent injury
- Able to perform varied physical work throughout the shift
- We will provide training on certain building systems
- Asset if you possess any certificates for plumbing and/or electrical
