The West Vancouver Parks Department is accepting applications to fill two permanent, full-time Park Attendant positions, responsible for a variety of park maintenance tasks.

The successful candidate may also be assisting with: turfgrass mowing and maintenance, garbage/litter/recycling collection, park construction; graffiti removal, sign and trail maintenance, playground maintenance; snow removal, and other related duties as operationally required. The position is considered manual work, requiring strength, effort and stamina. Candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.


The successful candidate will possess:


Ÿ An aptitude/interest in Park Operations;

Ÿ General knowledge concerning safe use of landscape maintenance equipment;

Ÿ Basic knowledge of grass maintenance including mowing, aerating, seeding and sod laying;

Ÿ Basic knowledge of vegetation maintenance including weeding, planting and pruning;

Ÿ Basic knowledge of native and invasive plants

Ÿ Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of manual outdoor work in all types of weather;

Ÿ An ability to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the public and the staff team;

Ÿ Ability to exercise excellent customer service skills when interacting with park users and the general public

Ÿ Knowledge of, and the ability to make decisions in accordance with, departmental policies, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed;

Ÿ Experience driving large trucks on streets and within parks and around people; and,

Ÿ Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of BC.

Ÿ Experience operating tractors, ride-on mowers, and chainsaws is considered an asset.


Candidates will be asked to submit a Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.


The successful candidate will be required to supply an acceptable police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours of Work:


40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary, but include weekends)


Starting Rate of Pay:


$30.88 per hour

This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase after a certain number of hours worked.
