Saskatchewan Labour Relations and Workplace Safety has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Health Officer to join Safety Operations North based in Saskatoon.
The role of an Occupational Health Officer is to promote and enforce compliance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. The position includes travel throughout the central and northern parts of Saskatchewan; conduct inspections, respond to complaints, support workplace occupational health committees and representatives, educate workers and employers on health and safety matters and help resolve disputes concerning occupational health and safety concerns.
The successful candidate will have proven analytical skills and have demonstrated the ability to effectively apply occupational health and safety principles and strategies while promoting and enforcing the Saskatchewan Employment Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. Your experience will include 7+ years of experience in commercial or industrial workplaces, 3+ years supervising employees in a commercial or industrial setting and a minimum of 3 years’ experience applying fundamental health and safety work practices, techniques and requirements.
Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a recognized safety degree or diploma, technical designation, or being a journeyperson in a relevant sector. CRSP or CRST designation will be considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Kinesiology and experience in musculoskeletal injury prevention. The ideal candidate will have expertise in ergonomics, human movement, and workplace risk assessment and will contribute to the development, implementation, and enforcement of proactive strategies to reduce injury and promote employee well-being. A valid class 5 driver’s license is required, and a driver’s abstract may be requested.
