Our client, Nova Scotia Pension Services Corporation (NS Pension), is a non-profit that provides a wide range of investment, pension administration, and compliance services for some of Nova Scotia's leading pension plans.
They are currently looking for a Network Systems Specialist to provide design and support expertise for network systems and servers that facilitate the functionality of endpoint devices and services. This role is also responsible for the design and implementation of network systems and servers, including but not limited to Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory and Azure active directory, identity management systems, network applications and services, network switches, routers, circuits, firewalls and other devices and services that are required to support IT systems.
Typical Duties
Support and Maintenance (35%)
- Provisioning and configuration of network servers
- Installs, maintains and changes network server applications and services
- Installs, maintains and changes network devices
- Collaborates on network architecture design elements and maintains network diagrams
- Designs and develops processes, procedures and standards for the lifecycle of network devices, servers, and services
- Proactively monitors network devices and servers to ensure they are operating within established standards
- Works closely with Helpdesk and department staff to provide subject matter expertise to investigate, identify and analyse technical problems
- Performs detailed root cause analysis as a part of the problem management process
- Develops workarounds or change proposals for the change management team.
Solution Design and Implementation (35%)
- Advises on technical requirements to meet established business requirements for network devices, servers, and services
- Performs research and development activities as needed to maintain an understanding of industry trends
- Creates and implements solution design proposals
- Manages relationship with third party vendors.
Other (30%)
- Provides backup to Technical Support Analyst in handling day to day service requests and incidents
- Participates in on-call rotation and/or responding to alerts as required
- Works with TIS department staff to assist with security incident investigations as required
- Attends training to advance or maintain proficiency with industry trends
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Works with System Specialist position to ensure system interoperability.
Knowledge/Special Skills Required
- Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or similar field, with 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and education
- Related experience with managing and maintain Microsoft Active Directory and working with and supporting Windows and Linux Operating systems
- Understanding/ experience working with ITIL standards and processes and how they can be leveraged to improve processes, guidelines, and standards
- Knowledge of all aspects of IT network and infrastructure including current technologies and best practices preferred
- ITSM processes – Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Management
- Knowledge of organizational change management practices, requirements analysis, system development lifecycle, quality assurance and testing, security implementation and best practices
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience with some or all the following, network environments and architecture, including, Microsoft Windows, Windows Server, TCP\IP, DNS, DHCP Active Directory (AD) and IT Service management systems.
- Cisco Certified Network associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) preferred
- Experience with Fortinet preferred
- Analytical skills to determine if systems have been compromised and to investigate irregularities
- Firewall Management experience required
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written skills in order to work collaboratively with others and to communicate in a manner that is simple, clear and easy to understand
- Experience in supporting clients in a fast-paced, client-focused service environment
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 months
Pay: $81,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
