Position Summary:
The Child & Youth Mental Health Worker leads the service plan implementation of client-focused, evidence-based therapeutic interventions and support required for children and youth in residential programs who present with complex mental health and behavioural issues. This role involves delivering and evaluating therapeutic interventions, providing individual, family, and group counselling, and working closely with clients, families, and collateral professionals. The position also requires liaising with community programs and organizations and collaborating closely with the Clinical Manager, consulting psychologist, and Clinical Director using an inter-professional, collaborative approach.

Hours: 40 hours/week, Sunday-Thursday (mix of 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm shifts)

Location: North Vancouver

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience providing assessment and treatment services for children & youth in residential settings with psychiatric/mental health concerns.
  • Working knowledge of DSM diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act, and the Child, Family and Community Service Act.
  • Must complete an acceptable Criminal Record Search Report.
  • Must hold a current First Aid/CPR certificate (we will provide training to those who require it)
  • Must hold a current NVCI and Mandt certificate (training provided to those who require it)
  • BC Class 5 Driver’s License and must be comfortable with driving.

Skills:

  • Experience dealing with challenging behaviours and de-escalation techniques in residential settings.
  • Ability to work with high-risk clients, assess problems, and determine appropriate strategies for client coping skills.
  • Knowledge of different child and youth care approaches, the development of youth service plans, and applicable legislation and government regulations.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and self-regulate to co-regulate the client.
  • Clear, direct, and sensitive verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience liaising with community resources and multi-disciplinary professionals, and working within a team setting.
  • Proficiency in writing computer reports using Microsoft Word.

  • Provide inclusionary and flexible treatment and case management services for individuals with mental illness and concurrent disorders.
  • Work within the context of a client and family-centered care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the agency model of care.
  • Support a multi/interdisciplinary team to provide quality client care.
  • Identify client strengths to improve self-esteem.
  • Teach and reinforce adaptive behaviors and coping techniques.
  • Recognize zones of regulation to apply proper strategies and emphasize problem-solving behavior.
  • Implement and support strategies outlined in behavioral support plans.
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Perform household duties as required.

Salary: $28.00-$29.00/hour plus benefits
