Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Supervisor, Child and Youth Mental Health Services, the Mental Health Counsellor works collaboratively with children and youth identified as being at risk for or who are experiencing mental health issues that affect their functioning in some areas, such as at home, school, and /or in the community as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care. The Mental Health Counsellor is responsible for managing the clients’ file and is required to perform screening/intake duties, provide brief services, to counsel and to monitor clients’ progress and to work collaboratively with family/caregivers, agencies involved, as well as other multidisciplinary professionals within the organization. The Mental Health Counsellor will provide treatment in-person, virtually, and in the community (i.e. home, school, satellite offices) as required.
Requirements of the job
- College diploma in Human Services Field
- Experience working with children, youth and families in a clinical setting (3 years minimum)
- Knowledge of community resources
- Training in child development and child and youth mental health
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with community partners
- Ability to work independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good computer skills
- Certified in Non Violent Crisis Intervention
- Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
- Valid driver's license in good standing and access to own transportation
- Able to provide counselling services in the community (i.e. in home, school, satellite offices) and virtually in addition to in-office services as a required.
- Functional level in English (oral and written)
