Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and practical Mechanical Engineer to support the daily operations of our food production plants in Ontario. The successful candidate will assist with the maintenance, improvement, and optimization of mechanical equipment and systems, ensuring reliable and efficient plant operations in compliance with food safety and occupational health standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Optimization: Work with suppliers and partners to design, develop, and optimize mechanical systems for processing, packaging, and facility infrastructure.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to ensure equipment reliability.
- Preventative Maintenance: Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and improve equipment performance.
- Project Support: Contribute to capital projects, including equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, modifications, repairs, plant expansions, and layout changes.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain engineering reports, mechanical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Collaboration: Partner with production, maintenance, quality assurance, and sanitation teams to support daily operations.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in initiatives to improve equipment efficiency, conserve energy, reduce downtime, and automate processes.
- Compliance: Ensure mechanical documentation is current and complies with applicable standards, including food safety (HACCP, GMP) and occupational health and safety (OHSA) requirements.
- Training Support: Provide guidance and technical assistance to equipment operators and maintenance personnel as needed.
- Initiative: Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance or engineering, ideally in industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and create mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and OHSA requirements.
- Strong communication, organization and teamwork skills.
- Fluency in Chinese will be considered a strong asset.
Work Environment
- This role involves working in both office and plant floor environments, with regular exposure to operational noise, moving machinery, cold/freezing temperatures, and wet conditions.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime work may be required for critical projects or shutdowns.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 – 44 per week
