Job Description
About the Role
Reporting to the Methods & Tooling Manager, the Mechanical Methods & Tooling Engineer is responsible for defining and drafting installation, machining, dismantling, handling, and lifting procedures. You will contribute to the design and adaptation of specialized tools to support major ongoing or upcoming projects, while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
This role is ideally suited for professionals with a strong mechanical engineering background and knowledge of civil engineering (design and/or construction phases).
Key Responsibilities
Develop and document assembly, installation, and maintenance procedures for tooling, ensuring compliance with safety standards and applicable regulations.
Collaborate with the Center of Excellence for tooling design and continuous improvement.
Prepare technical drawings, lifting calculations, and related engineering documentation for machine handling and lifting operations.
Define requirements for access, packaging, and other project-related equipment needs.
Monitor project budgets and schedules, ensuring adherence to established timelines and costs.
Provide technical input in the design of tools or components to meet functional and project requirements.
Support on-site teams during machine installation and commissioning activities.
Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of civil engineering, particularly in the design and/or construction phases (highly valued).
Solid understanding of safety standards related to handling and lifting equipment.
Knowledge of welding and machining processes (an asset).
Authorized to work in the United States without restriction and/or holder of a valid TN-1 visa.
Willingness to travel occasionally within North America (approx. 5%).
Previous experience in the hydroelectric industry is strongly preferred.
Passion for mechanical design and hydroelectric projects.
Bilingual proficiency in French and English (written and spoken).
Familiarity with material strength calculations, finite element analysis, metallurgy, and welding methods (an asset).
Proficiency in 3D design software (NX required).
Knowledge of SmartSheet and Excel is an advantage.
