Position Overview
The Mechanical Assembly Technician will prepare equipment required for plasma compression operations in General Fusion’s laboratories. The role will involve cleaning and assembling components of metal casting equipment and/or diagnostic hardware used in the LM26 project, following General Fusion’s standard operating procedures and documentation. Instructions will be provided, but feedback on opportunities for process improvement will be encouraged. The position is primarily located on site at General Fusion’s facilities in Richmond, BC, and may require some shift work or flexible hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and tools in the laboratory
- Assemble and operate custom-built equipment
- Maintain cleanliness of mechanical workstations and equipment
- Assist with upgrades to equipment
- Champion safe work practices; proactively contribute to a great work environment
- Work independently as well as part of a team
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Exposure to physics and/or engineering through coursework or personal projects is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude, hands-on disposition
- Experience with hand tools and power tools
- Positive attitude to repetitive tasks and attention to detail
- Willingness to operate in a fast-paced environment with rapidly evolving priorities
- Desire to learn new skills and improve processes
- Good time management
- Ability to lift 20 kg
- Ability to use basic computer programs
- Strong safety mindset
Preferred:
- Experience working in a research or product development lab environment
- Chemical handling experience
- Experience working with prototype equipment
- Experience with lifting equipment (forklift, overhead cranes, rigging, etc.)
- Familiarity with 3D CAD design software (SolidWorks)
The typical hiring range for this position is $45,000 – $50,000. General Fusion considers several factors when determining total compensation, including job-specific or highly specialized knowledge, skills, and experience, proficiency, job location, and internal equity.
