We are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to join the team in Ottawa, Ontario. As the Mechanical Estimator, you will work within the team to prepare for, assemble and submit tender prices for various projects of all sizes and scope. The Estimator will be responsible to prepare, record and maintain pricing and assist the management team in the ongoing pursuit and acquisition of construction projects. Through the development of the estimate, the Estimator sets the basis for the projects teams’ success by breaking the project into logical areas with labour and cost breakdowns. The estimator is responsible for the turnover of this information to the project execution team when Modern is successful in their bid.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review proposal specifications and complete quantity take-offs for labour, equipment, and materials to ensure accurate pricing
- Estimate and create accurate proposals for individual projects
- Identify innovative solutions to solve clients problems ultimately resulting in improvements or cost-saving incentives
- Meet with customers & clients to better understand their needs and requirements
- Meet with Modern Niagara suppliers to foster relationships and negotiate pricing
- Provide technical support to Modern Niagara’s Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Business Development teams
- Generate project plans, and communication plans, and facilitate project hand-off meetings for all relevant project partners once the project has been awarded
- Liaise with Project Managers and ensure all relevant information is shared and understood
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
- 8+ years of extensive, practical and successful experience in organizing and preparing cost estimates and proposals for Mechanical (HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing, and/or piping) construction projects working in both the subcontractor and prime contractor capacity
- Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
- Experience with estimating software (ex. Trimble, AutoBid, Bluebeam, ProCore)
- Strong understanding of specifications, construction methods, and procedures
- Experience in commercial and institutional projects is an asset
- Ability to put together accurate proposals under pressure and within customers deadlines
- Demonstrated Intermediate to Advanced level of Microsoft Office products, focus on Excel
